Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital
Department of Pharmacy Services
There are no more than two twelve-week clerkships available at any one time. An attempt to stagger rotations is made and we try to make sure no two students are from the same school at any one time (this is so we can all benefit from as many different perspectives as possible.)
Clerkships are usually scheduled at least 6 months in advance. Around the time school starts in the fall, we are actively making arrangements for rotations starting in the fall of the next year up through summer of the year after that.
Clerkships can be for any twelve week period, but being flexible in your time requested can help you secure a position. Hint: Students usually don't want to be up here over the Christmas holiday, so if you really want to get a taste of Alaska living, or you're late in applying - considering e-mailing us at the pharmacy and ask about doing your rotations over Christmas (November through January).
Requests for positions made by the school's Clerkship Coordinator have priority over requests made by students. We will be requesting, and rely heavily on, the recommendation of the Clerkship Coordinator. It's better to get all issues cleared up in the rotation planning process, rather than later in the process.
